Prof. Xiaoyi Bao
Dr. Xiaoyi Bao is a Professor of Physics at the University of Ottawa. Her recent research areas include distributed phase matching sensing on four-wave mixing for dynamic fiber optic sensing, low noise fiber lasers, random optical parametric oscillators and sensors, micro-structured fiber for ultrasensitive sensing, and fiber impairments. She has pioneered advancements in developing distributed fiber sensors for structural health monitoring, non-destructive testing, and structured fibers for ultrasensitive sensing for acoustic waves and ultrasound, and biomedical related parameters. Her contributions have been recognized with honors and awards, including the Governor General's Innovation Award (2021), Optica’s Joseph Fraunhofer Award (2023), the CAP Lifetime Achievement Award (2024), and the NSERC Donna Strickland Prize (2025).
